Commis (Kitchen Assistant)

About the role

The Commis supports the culinary team in a luxury hotel environment, ensuring the kitchen is well stocked and ready for service. This entry‑level position involves preparing ingredients, maintaining hygiene standards and assisting with daily food production.

Key responsibilities

• Stock the assigned kitchen with raw materials and ingredients daily.
• Operate electrical and mechanical kitchen equipment safely.
• Prepare daily mise‑en‑place and execute basic cooking methods such as cutting and portioning.
• Cook food items according to standard recipe cards while controlling portions and minimizing waste.
• Apply HACCP food safety and hygiene standards and maintain a clean production area.
• Report hazards, unsafe conditions or equipment issues to the supervisor promptly.
• Participate in briefings, meetings and training sessions as required.
• Maintain personal appearance and hygiene at all times.
• Ensure fire and life safety procedures are followed.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary education or relevant qualification in Hotel Management.
• 1–2 years of commis experience, preferably in a luxury hotel.
• Fluent in oral and written English.

Required skills

• Kitchen equipment operation.
• Basic cooking techniques and mise‑en‑place preparation.
• Knowledge of HACCP food safety standards.
