Commercial Counsel – SaaS Legal Specialist

About the role

Candescent is seeking a Commercial Counsel to join its dynamic, collegial legal team. You will work on client contracts and commercial matters, collaborating closely with business units while receiving mentorship from senior leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate customer licensing and sales contracts, aligning language and financial terms while protecting Candescent from risk.
• Draft commercial agreements, including product exhibits, service level agreements (SLAs) and statements of work (SOWs).
• Engage with customer counsel to close time‑sensitive deals and negotiate Data Processing Agreements.
• Provide sound legal judgment on contract interpretation and risk, and prepare detailed playbooks that frame the risk profile for customer contracts.
• Occasionally support partner and vendor agreement negotiations.

Required profile

• J.D. from an accredited, top‑tier law school and admission to a State Bar.
• 5+ years of commercial or sales‑support counsel experience in the SaaS space, with at least 3 years in‑house.
• Deep knowledge of state and global privacy laws.
• Self‑starter who works with urgency, excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, and confidence in client‑facing situations.
• Team player with strong attention to detail and a willingness to continuously learn and upskill.
