Certified Nursing Assistant – Transitional Care Unit

About the role

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) will provide direct patient care on the Transitional Care Unit at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. This full‑time, day‑shift position works 72 hours per pay period, supporting LPNs and RNs in delivering high‑quality care to residents.

Key responsibilities

• Measure and record vital signs, weight, height, and intake‑output.
• Encourage deep breathing, coughing, and use of incentive spirometry as ordered.
• Assist residents with ambulation, transfers, and positioning.
• Provide ADL support including feeding, oral hygiene, dressing, and bed linen changes.
• Manage drains, canisters, urine bags, bedpans, and emesis basins, documenting outputs.
• Maintain a safe environment by reporting equipment issues and handling supplies appropriately.
• Apply and remove TED stockings, sequential compression devices, and ostomy bags.
• Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens as directed.
• Assist with range‑of‑motion exercises and use of ambulatory devices.
• Respond promptly to call lights and report significant changes to nursing staff.

Required profile

• Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
• Ability to work under the supervision of LPNs/RNs and follow hospital policies.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
• Willingness to perform non‑invasive, non‑medication tasks as outlined.
