Cashier – Branch Banking

About the role

The Cashier is responsible for executing all cash‑related transactions and operations at the branch in line with internal and external banking guidelines. This full‑time position ensures accurate processing of deposits, withdrawals, and loan repayments while maintaining high standards of customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and process cheques, drafts, dividend warrants, pay orders and other instruments for withdrawals within authorized limits.
• Disburse cash on withdrawal requests and collect cash on deposit challans.
• Collect loan repayments as per EMI schedules and record entries in the banking system.
• Maintain inward/outward registers, petty‑cash register, and assets register; submit requisition forms to the Regional Head Office.
• Perform daily cash tally, reconcile transactions, and prepare the End‑of‑Day branch report.
• Jointly manage the branch vault and cash department with the Operations Officer.
• Provide courteous customer service, address queries, and promote bank products where appropriate.
• Educate customers on using alternate channels for deposits, withdrawals and inquiries.
• Count cash at the start and end of the day, safeguard cash, keys and valuables.
• Ensure compliance with transaction turnaround times, banking regulations and internal policies.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in cash handling.
• Good knowledge of banking procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to maintain registers and perform end‑of‑day reconciliations.
• Customer‑focused attitude with good communication skills.
• Capability to work collaboratively with branch staff and senior officers.
