Canteen Housekeeper

About the role

We are looking for a reliable Housekeeper to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of our canteen and school facilities. The role involves daily cleaning, restroom upkeep, surface disinfection and occasional deep‑cleaning tasks, ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for students and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, vacuum and polish floors; dust and wipe surfaces, furniture and fixtures.
• Empty and sanitize waste bins, replace liners and manage cleaning supplies.
• Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks and restroom fixtures; replenish paper, soap and towels.
• Sanitize high‑touch areas such as door handles, light switches and handrails regularly.
• Perform scheduled deep‑cleaning tasks including carpet cleaning, window washing and floor stripping/waxing.
• Handle spills and accidents promptly and safely.
• Use cleaning equipment correctly, report malfunctions and restock supplies as needed.
• Follow health and safety procedures, wear appropriate PPE and report maintenance issues.
• Collaborate with other staff, follow daily task lists and communicate any concerns.

Required profile

• No formal education required; basic literacy and numeracy are helpful.
• Previous experience in cleaning or janitorial work, preferably in a school or childcare setting.
• Strong attention to detail, reliable attendance and ability to work independently.
• Commitment to health, safety and safeguarding standards.

Required skills

• Operating vacuums, floor scrubbers and other cleaning equipment.
• Proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals.
• Surface disinfection and deep‑cleaning techniques.
