Branch Cashier – Banking Operations

About the role

The Branch Cashier is responsible for executing all cash‑related transactions and ensuring accurate record‑keeping in accordance with internal and external banking guidelines. Working under the Branch Operations Manager, the role supports the smooth operation of the branch’s cash function.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and process cheques, drafts, dividend warrants, pay orders and similar instruments within authorized limits.
• Disburse cash for withdrawal requests and collect cash for deposit challans.
• Collect loan repayments as per EMI schedules and maintain related system entries.
• Maintain inward/outward registers, petty‑cash register, assets register and submit requisition forms to the Regional Head Office.
• Perform daily cash tally, reconcile transactions and produce the End‑of‑Day branch report.
• Jointly manage the branch vault and cash‑handling operations with the Operations Officer.
• Interact with customers during deposits and withdrawals, identify cross‑sell opportunities and update them on new products and services.
• Educate customers on alternate channels for transactions and inquiries.
• Ensure compliance with defined turnaround times, banking regulations and internal policies.
• Validate customer authenticity during cash withdrawals and verify accuracy of deposit slips.
• Update bank passbooks and process cash bundles for currency‑chest deposits.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in cash handling.
• Excellent customer service orientation.
• Ability to work under defined turnaround times and meet compliance standards.
• Basic knowledge of banking regulations and cash‑management procedures.
• Proficiency in maintaining registers, reports and system entries.
