Branch Cashier – Banking Operations

About the role

The Branch Cashier is responsible for executing all cash‑related transactions and operations at the bank branch, ensuring compliance with internal and external banking guidelines. This role supports the smooth functioning of the branch by handling cash, maintaining registers, and providing excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and process cheques, drafts, dividend warrants, pay orders and other instruments within authorized limits.
• Disburse cash for withdrawal requests and collect cash against deposit challans.
• Collect loan repayments as per EMI schedules and record entries in the system.
• Maintain inward/outward registers, petty‑cash register, assets register and submit requisitions to the Regional Head Office.
• Perform daily cash tally, prepare end‑of‑day branch reports and reconcile cash in the system.
• Jointly manage the branch vault and cash‑handling function with the Operations Officer.
• Interact with customers during transactions, cross‑sell products, explain repayment dates and promote alternate banking channels.
• Count and verify cash at the beginning and end of each day, safeguard cash, keys and valuables.
• Ensure adherence to turnaround times, regulatory compliance and bank policies for all cashier operations.
• Validate customer authenticity during withdrawals and verify accuracy of deposit slips.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in cash handling.
• Excellent customer service orientation with courteous communication.
• Ability to follow banking regulations, policies and standard operating procedures.
• Good documentation skills for maintaining registers and preparing reports.
• Team‑oriented mindset to work closely with branch operations staff.
