Backend Technical Lead (TL/STL)

About the role

Paytm is seeking a Backend Technical Lead to design scalable architectures, mentor engineers, and drive technology‑first projects. You will own backend systems serving over 100 million daily active users, ensuring API latencies under 50 ms. The role also emphasizes leveraging AI tools such as GPT and Copilot to accelerate design, code reviews, and prototyping.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement high‑scale distributed systems, microservices, and cloud‑native architectures on AWS.
• Optimize APIs for sub‑50 ms latency and improve caching, messaging, and storage efficiency.
• Coach and mentor engineering teams, conduct code reviews, and champion engineering best practices.
• Integrate AI‑driven tools to boost productivity in architecture design and development.

Required profile

• 4–6 years of hands‑on backend engineering experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Proven ownership of large‑scale distributed systems, microservices, messaging, caching, and cloud scalability.
• Strong architectural thinking capable of handling billions of transactions.
• AI‑first mindset, comfortable using GPT, Copilot, or similar tools.
• Effective leadership and mentoring skills.
