Backend Software Engineer (Node.js)

About the role

Plane is building an open work‑management platform where humans and AI agents collaborate. As a Backend Software Engineer you will own the Node.js and TypeScript services that ingest work from Slack, GitHub, Jira, Linear and other tools, and expose APIs for external developers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain integrations with Slack, GitHub and other third‑party tools, handling API changes gracefully.
• Build and evolve importers that migrate customer history from Jira, Linear and similar systems without data loss.
• Develop the queue and worker architecture (retries, idempotency, back‑pressure) that processes imported work.
• Create the OAuth and developer‑facing surface that external builders use to write apps, including agent‑driven applications.
• Collaborate daily with Django engineers and support external developers through public GitHub issues.

Required profile

• Proven experience shipping Node.js/TypeScript services to production.
• Hands‑on knowledge of Express, NestJS or comparable frameworks.
• Experience building reliable queue/worker systems with retry and idempotency guarantees.
• Track record integrating with third‑party APIs, handling rate limits, pagination and token expiration.
• Comfortable reading and optimizing PostgreSQL queries.
