Backend Software Engineer – Build Distributed Cloud Services

About the role

Alkira is reinventing networking for the AI era and seeks a Backend Software Engineer to own products from concept to production, building and operating large‑scale distributed systems.

Key responsibilities

• Take product ideas from 0 to 1: scope, design, build, ship, and own them in production.
• Build and maintain large‑scale distributed systems for multi‑cloud networking, ensuring resiliency, scale, and correctness under real customer load.
• Design, build, and maintain APIs and microservices using Java/Spring, Go, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes.
• Operate what you build: handle customer escalations, on‑call duties, telemetry, bug fixes, and maintain existing services.

Required profile

• B.S./M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 2 years of software engineering experience.
• Proven ability to take a product from zero to shipped and comfortable inheriting and improving existing codebases.
• Daily use of AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot and a mindset to leverage AI for faster development.
• Strong CS fundamentals with hands‑on experience in Java/Spring, Go, distributed systems, REST API design, DB schema design, and multithreading.
• Fluency with Linux/kernel, containers, and Kubernetes deployment.
• Security‑first thinking for distributed, multi‑tenant systems.
