Automation Engineer (Steel Plant)

About the role

The Automation Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and improving the control systems of a Steel Melting Shop, including BOF, SRU, and LF processes. The role focuses on ensuring reliable operation of Siemens PLCs and associated networks in a high‑intensity metal production environment.

Key responsibilities

• Execute preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance on PLC hardware and software.
• Diagnose and resolve faults in Siemens S7‑300/400/400H/1200/1500 PLCs and PCS7 systems.
• Perform Profibus network troubleshooting and configuration.
• Develop and modify automation programs using SCL, FBD, and Ladder logic.
• Maintain documentation, daily progress reports and maintenance logs.
• Support PLC‑to‑PLC and PLC‑to‑Drive communications, including Speed Master and Ramp management.
• Coordinate with the team and client to ensure safety procedures are followed during electrical work.

Required profile

• 8‑10 years of experience in Siemens PLC automation and network servers.
• Background in steel plant or large metal plant automation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation or related engineering discipline.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work on Level‑1 and Level‑2 networks, servers, HMIs and related hardware.

Required skills

• Siemens PLC (S7‑300/400/400H/1200/1500) and PCS7.
• SCL, FBD, Ladder Logic programming.
• Profibus network diagnosis.
• Wonderware (advantageous).
• PLC‑to‑PLC and PLC‑to‑Drive communication.
• HMI configuration and server hardware knowledge.
• Preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance procedures.
