About the role

The French Institute in India (Chennai branch) is seeking a French Cooperation Officer to lead the promotion of French language education across the southern region of India. Reporting to the Cooperation and Cultural Action Advisor and the Institute Director, the role supports the French Embassy’s cultural and educational strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Design, negotiate and implement bilateral cooperation projects in line with embassy policy.
• Develop and maintain relationships with local authorities, French partners and beneficiaries.
• Promote French language in schools and higher‑education institutions across six southern Indian states.
• Manage mobility programmes for language assistants, including recruitment and follow‑up.
• Design and deliver teacher‑training programmes, regional pedagogical university events, scholarship schemes and initial FLE training.
• Advocate for the “French for All” programme with state governments to train new generations of French teachers.
• Support French studies departments and collaborate with local teacher associations on events and training.
• Expand networks such as “Certified French in School”, LabelFrancEducation and French certification centres (DELF, Junior).
• Represent the cultural service of the embassy to French schools in the region and assist in creating new French‑language teaching structures.

Required profile

• Experience in educational cooperation, project management and stakeholder engagement.
• Strong knowledge of the Indian education system and French language teaching.
• Ability to travel throughout southern India and work autonomously.
• Excellent communication and advocacy skills.
