Associate – Underground Structures (Mining & Civil)

About the role

We are looking for an Associate to lead underground structures, tunnelling and mining infrastructure projects. The role combines strategic leadership, technical oversight and client relationship management across the Global Capability Centre.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for underground structures and tunnelling services in mining and civil projects.
• Act as Project, Design, Technical Director or Discipline Lead on major programmes.
• Lead delivery from feasibility through detailed design to construction support.
• Establish technical standards, design governance and quality‑assurance processes.
• Oversee structural analysis and design, including ground loading, ground‑structure interaction, hydrostatic and groundwater pressures, construction methodologies and temporary works.
• Manage project risk, constructability and whole‑life asset performance.
• Drive client engagement, develop new business opportunities and lead bid strategies.
• Lead innovation initiatives in digital engineering, automation and continuous improvement.
• Develop capability growth plans, succession strategies and technical‑excellence programmes.
• Represent the firm at industry forums and ensure compliance with health, safety, quality, sustainability and information‑security requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional qualification.
• Member of a relevant engineering institution.
• 18–25+ years of experience in tunnelling, underground structures, mining infrastructure or multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience leading major projects, programmes and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Demonstrated business development and client‑relationship management track record.
