Associate Professor – Higher Education

About the role

The University of Namibia seeks an Associate Professor to lead teaching, research, and curriculum development in Higher Education studies. This full‑time position will support the department’s mission to advance quality teaching, learning, and research across all levels.

Key responsibilities

• Teach modules covering quality and relevance, research innovation, curriculum development, teaching and learning, research methodology, financial sustainability, and globalisation in Higher Education.
• Supervise postgraduate research at Masters level and, where possible, PhD candidates.
• Contribute to curriculum development and innovation within the department.
• Engage in research and scholarly activities in lifelong learning, adult education, and open and distance education.
• Participate in departmental, school, and university service activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Higher Education, Higher Education Management, Adult Education, or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
• At least five years of university‑level lecturing experience, including three years as a Senior Lecturer with a strong record of teaching, research, publications, and community service.
• Demonstrated experience supervising Masters students; PhD supervision is an advantage.
• Evidence of a peer‑reviewed publication record and curriculum development experience at the tertiary level.
• Experience with open and distance learning or blended delivery is desirable.

Required skills

• Knowledge of higher education policy and governance in the African or Southern African context.
• Familiarity with quality assurance frameworks.
• Experience in programme development and institutional review.
• Understanding of adult learning theory and its application in higher education.
• Strong research and grant‑seeking track record or demonstrated potential.
