Associate - Global Custody Tax EMEA

About the role

The Senior Associate – Global Custody Tax leads day‑to‑day operations of the Global Custody Tax team for BNP Paribas India Solutions. You will act as the primary subject‑matter expert, mentor junior staff and ensure tax‑related activities are delivered accurately and on time.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the go‑to reference for tax‑team members; train, guide and mentor junior staff.
• Allocate daily work, set priorities and oversee complex or high‑value items.
• Perform “checker” reviews on all manual tax‑related activities before final release.
• Collect, verify and analyse client tax documentation such as residency certificates and DTA proofs.
• Update the tax database to reflect correct fiscal treatment based on DTAs, client residency and sub‑custodian procedures.
• Manage relief‑at‑source documentation and ensure correct withholding‑tax application.
• Prepare, submit and monitor tax‑reclaim forms via the tax‑reclaim system and track refund status.
• Provide clients with market updates, tax‑matrix insights and required certifications or disclosures.
• Escalate incidents or operational risks promptly and perform daily controls using check‑lists.
• Investigate cash‑break issues with Control Teams and continuously improve documented procedures.
• Prepare monthly KPI reports and support Business Continuity Planning activities.
• Work shifts as needed to support Asian, American or European business hours.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Law, Business Administration or a related discipline.
• Professional tax qualification (e.g., CA (Inter)) with completed articling.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in international taxation, tax reclaim or custodial tax operations.
• Strong knowledge of tax laws, withholding taxes and Double Tax Treaty Agreements.
• Understanding of custody operations, relief‑at‑source and tax‑reclaim processes.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team.
