Assistant Professor of English

About the role

The Department of English seeks an enthusiastic Assistant Professor to join its faculty. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching, advance scholarly research, and engage in departmental service.

Key responsibilities

• Design, update, and deliver undergraduate and/or graduate courses in world literature, literary theory, composition, or related sub‑fields.
• Create syllabi, assignments, and exams; assess and grade student work objectively.
• Maintain an active research agenda, publish peer‑reviewed work, and present findings at conferences.
• Hold regular office hours to mentor students, supervise theses or capstone projects, and advise on academic and career pathways.
• Participate in department meetings, faculty committees, curriculum development, and university‑wide outreach activities.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or terminal degree in English, Literature, Creative Writing, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution (candidates near dissertation completion may be considered).
• Demonstrated effectiveness in college‑level teaching.
• Evidence of scholarly publication potential or a strong track record of research engagement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a commitment to an inclusive classroom environment.
