Assistant Manager Buying & Merchandising

About the role

The Assistant Manager Buying & Merchandising will support the development and execution of category strategies, ensuring the right products are available at the right time while driving profitability. This role works closely with cross‑functional teams to align buying, pricing, and promotional activities with market demand.

Key responsibilities

• Category Management – Own assigned product categories, analyse performance, sales and profitability, and devise growth strategies based on customer demand and market trends.
• Buying & Procurement – Plan seasonal and monthly purchases, forecast demand, place orders, negotiate pricing, payment terms and delivery schedules with vendors.
• Vendor Management – Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and new suppliers, identify exclusive launch and private‑label opportunities, and conduct regular business reviews.
• Inventory Management – Monitor stock levels, sell‑through and aging inventory, minimise stock‑outs and excess, and plan replenishment based on forecasts.
• Pricing & Promotions – Develop competitive pricing strategies, plan promotional campaigns, discounts and bundle offers, and coordinate with marketing and merchandising teams.
• Market & Competitor Analysis – Track competitor pricing, assortment and promotions, monitor industry trends and consumer preferences, and identify gaps for new product introductions.
• Cross‑functional Coordination – Collaborate with Planning & Supply Chain, Marketing, E‑commerce Operations, Finance, Merchandising, Quality & Product Development.
• Business Analytics – Track and improve KPIs such as GMV, revenue, gross margin, inventory days, sell‑through %, fill rate, OTIF, stock availability, forecast accuracy, vendor performance and returns %.
