About the role

The Hindu is hiring an Assistant Editor for its News Desk in Chennai. The role requires a sharp eye for detail, a passion for storytelling across formats, and the ability to plan, copy‑edit, and design news pages. You will work on‑site from the Chennai head office during the late‑evening shift and must submit your application by October 10, 2026 with the subject line “Application for Assistant Editor, News Desk”.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, copy‑edit, and design compelling news pages using CUE Print or Adobe InDesign.
  • Commission impactful news analysis and long‑form reporting on current affairs.

Required profile

  • 8–12 years of dedicated experience in print journalism.
  • Prior print desk experience in newspapers (mandatory; applicants without this will not be considered).
  • Master’s degree in Journalism (highly preferred).
