Assistant Editor – Journal Editorial Team

About the role

Springer Nature is expanding its Discover imprint and is looking for an Assistant Editor to manage the manuscript pipeline for its journals in Pune. The role involves processing submissions from initial receipt through to final decision while supporting Editors‑in‑Chief and handling communication with authors, reviewers and guest editors.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the manuscript pipeline from “Ready for Editorial” to final decision, ensuring timely processing and high quality.
• Perform quality checks on submissions to confirm suitability for editor assignment and peer review.
• Invite and assign handling editors and reviewers, managing stakeholder relationships throughout the review process.
• Communicate decisions to authors, monitor progress, and provide support to achieve target turnaround times.
• Mentor new team members and contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives for editorial workflows.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience, with at least 1 year in a similar editorial support role.
• Master’s degree in a scientific or technical discipline (e.g., Life Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science).
• Strong written communication, analytical and decision‑making abilities.
• Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Word.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, etc.).
