Assistant Editor Internship – Scholarly Publishing

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Editor Intern to support the editorial workflow of Cureus journals at Springer Nature. The role is ideal for Master’s or PhD‑level candidates who are passionate about scholarly publishing and have strong academic judgment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform enhanced quality checks and suitability assessments on submitted manuscripts to verify compliance with journal requirements.
• Conduct brief scientific and editorial evaluations to determine the appropriate next step (peer review, author‑side editing, third‑party editing, or rejection).
• Ensure accurate routing of manuscripts to prevent downstream issues.
• Manage manuscripts from the “Ready for Editorial” stage through to final decision.
• Invite Editorial Board Members or assign submissions to suitable Handling Editors.
• Provide ongoing support to Handling Editors throughout the editorial process.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD‑level education with strong subject knowledge.
• Excellent written communication and academic judgment.
• High attention to detail and strong time‑management skills.
• Interest in scholarly publishing and ability to apply editorial policies consistently.
