Assistant Catenary Engineer – Rail

About the role

As an Assistant Catenary Engineer in the Rail division of AFRY, you will work on diverse railway projects, contributing to the design, analysis and delivery of catenary systems. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team based in Sweden and support clients throughout the project lifecycle, from concept studies to final commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and design complete catenary systems, producing detailed CAD drawings and engineering calculations.
• Perform feasibility studies, investigations and detailed engineering, ensuring all necessary approvals and regulatory compliance.
• Prepare comprehensive tender documents and provide tendering support services for railway infrastructure projects.
• Offer technical supervision and expertise during construction and commissioning phases to guarantee quality and safety.

Required profile

• A recognized degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification obtained from a reputable university.
• 2–4 years of hands‑on experience in designing railway catenary systems, including engineering calculations and documentation.
• Proficient written and spoken English, at least CEFR level B1, to communicate effectively with international teams.
• Previous experience working abroad, especially on projects in the Nordics or Sweden, is highly valued.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with Bentley OpenRail and Bentley MicroStation for creating and managing catenary designs.
• Solid knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D for civil engineering modelling and analysis.
• Familiarity with Bentley ProjectWise Explorer for document management and collaboration.
• Strong command of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and presentation.
