AM Engineering Projects – Automation & Machine Building

About the role

The AM Engineering Project role leads automation‑driven engineering and custom machine‑building projects for Johnson & Johnson’s regulated manufacturing environment. You will manage projects from concept through design, testing, commissioning and handover while ensuring safety, quality and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end execution of automation and machine‑building projects, owning scope, schedule, budget, risks and change management.
• Act as technical owner for custom machines, coordinating with global OEMs, machine suppliers and system integrators during design, FAT, installation, SAT and ramp‑up.
• Provide technical leadership in PLC, HMI/SCADA, servo drives, VFDs, motion control and machine safety systems, including troubleshooting and performance optimisation.
• Integrate vision systems (e.g., Cognex) for inspection and traceability, defining requirements and commissioning strategy.
• Review and approve electrical schematics, panel layouts and instrumentation, ensuring compliance with IEC and functional safety standards.
• Lead or support IQ/OQ/PQ validation, manage deviations, root‑cause investigations and CAPA implementation.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Instrumentation/Automation Engineering (preferred).
• Strong experience in automation‑intensive machine‑building or capital projects, preferably in MedTech or Pharma.
• Hands‑on exposure to global machine vendors/OEMs, PLC/HMI programming, servo drives and vision systems.
• Knowledge of machine safety, functional safety, GMP, ISO 13485 and related regulatory standards.
