Staff Software Engineer - Databases

About the role

Databricks is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and reliability of its global schema migration platform. You will own the infrastructure that powers automated, observable, and developer‑friendly schema and data changes across thousands of databases.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and maintain the automated schema migration platform for MySQL and TiDB, including versioning, rollback, validation and auditing.
• Ensure platform scalability and zero‑downtime operation across thousands of global databases, building observability, resilience and recovery mechanisms.
• Develop test harnesses for migration and deployment validation and embed migration workflows into CI/CD pipelines.
• Create developer‑friendly tools and APIs that simplify schema and data change management, including backfill and purge operations.

Required profile

• 12+ years of experience in backend systems or platform engineering.
• Proven track record building and scaling mission‑critical platforms supporting high‑throughput global services.
• Experience with MySQL, TiDB and large‑scale schema migration frameworks.
• Strong focus on developer experience and automation.
