Senior Software Engineer - Search

About the role

The Applied AI team at Databricks is building AI‑powered search and discovery experiences for its data platform. As a Senior Software Engineer you will lead the development of machine‑learning based relevance models that help customers find assets such as tables, notebooks, dashboards and ML models quickly and accurately.

Key responsibilities

• Drive the development and deployment of ML‑based search and discovery relevance models integrated with Databricks products.
• Design and implement automated ML and NLP pipelines for data preprocessing, query understanding, ranking, retrieval and model evaluation.
• Collaborate with product managers and cross‑functional teams to shape technology‑first initiatives for the search experience.
• Contribute to a robust framework for evaluating search ranking improvements both offline and online.

Required profile

• BS+ in Computer Science or related field (M.S. or PhD preferred).
• 5+ years experience building search relevance systems at scale.
• Hands‑on experience applying Large Language Models to search relevance.
• Experience in one or more areas such as query understanding, NLP, text mining, recommendations, personalization, discovery or conversational AI.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of computer‑science fundamentals.
• Contributions to well‑used open‑source projects.
