Porter/Driver – General Services (Band 22)

About the role

The successful candidate will join the Facilities Department at Borders General Hospital to provide essential portering and occasional driver services. Working 15 hours per week on a permanent basis, you will support patient care by moving equipment, supplies and patients across wards, departments and office areas.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out portering duties in wards, clinics and administrative areas as directed.
• Assist with patient discharges and urgent transport requests using a hospital vehicle when required.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in all areas you service.
• Work scheduled weekend shifts and early‑shift Mondays.
• Comply with health and safety, infection control and NHS Borders Behavioural Framework standards.

Required profile

• Demonstrated competence in domestic and manual handling activities.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing workload and shift patterns.
• Knowledge of NHS Borders policies and the Behavioural Framework.
• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom and willingness to undergo required background checks, including PVG registration if applicable.

Required skills

• Valid driver’s licence for hospital vehicle operation.
