Design & Development Manager – Low Voltage Switchboards

About the role

The Manager – Design & Development will lead mechanical design activities for low‑voltage switchboards, ensuring compliance with customer and R&D requirements. You will work closely with sales, engineering and production teams to deliver high‑quality, cost‑effective solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare the Mechanical Bill of Material for low‑voltage switchboards according to IEC 61439 and R&D guidelines.
• Propose and develop complex technical solutions and custom assemblies when standard parts are unavailable.
• Partner with sales during bidding, support technical discussions and conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) with customers.
• Manage drawing revisions, change management and ensure accurate documentation.
• Drive process‑improvement, value‑engineering and cost‑optimisation projects to improve margins.
• Provide technical mentorship to the engineering team and ensure high‑quality deliverables.
• Undertake transformation projects to keep the organization future‑ready.
• Upload and maintain BOMs in SAP Material Management module.
• Take on stretched assignments and manage multiple flagship projects with expected quality and timelines.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with 6‑10 years of relevant experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, project management and analytical/problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to interact with electrical engineers, customers, project managers and trainers to define design solutions.
• Experience leading technical activities, planning and scheduling of technicians and engineers.
• Knowledge of key market segments and ability to translate customer applications into functional specifications.
• Hands‑on knowledge of basic electrical core principles related to power‑system engineering.

Required skills

• Knowledge of IEC 61439 standard and low‑voltage panel design & manufacturing.
• 2D CAD using AutoCAD.
• 3D modelling in Creo (sheet metal, assembly, drawings).
• Sheet‑metal processing and manufacturing expertise.
• SAP Material Management (MM) module for ERP management.
