Software Engineer – Endpoint Agent

About the role

PlexTrac is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build a lightweight, secure endpoint agent that runs on Linux, Windows, and macOS. The agent will power the next‑generation cybersecurity platform, collecting telemetry and enabling detection capabilities across thousands of customer machines. This is a remote‑first position for candidates located in India.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement endpoint agent components on top of Osquery, including custom extensions and integrations.
• Develop cross‑platform software that runs reliably on Linux, Windows, and macOS.
• Create packaging and distribution pipelines (deb/rpm, MSI, pkg) for seamless deployment and upgrades.
• Ensure agent performance, stability, and low resource usage across diverse environments.
• Implement secure communication between the agent and backend services.
• Build mechanisms for remote execution, telemetry collection, and policy enforcement.
• Debug complex issues in customer environments (OS‑level, networking, permissions, etc.).
• Design upgrade, rollback, and observability mechanisms for agents in production.
• Collaborate with backend, platform, and security teams to define agent capabilities.
• Write clear documentation for deployment, debugging, and extension development.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure‑focused roles.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and Go.
• Experience building cross‑platform software for Linux, Windows, and macOS.
• Hands‑on experience with Osquery.
• Familiarity with endpoint security concepts such as EDR, telemetry, and attack surface.
• Proven ability to debug production issues in customer environments.
• Understanding of secure coding practices and endpoint hardening techniques.
