Legal AI Subject Matter Expert (Remote Contractor)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced attorney to work as a remote, hourly contractor providing legal expertise for AI training data. You will act as a Subject Matter Expert, reviewing AI‑generated legal responses, creating high‑quality legal content, and giving detailed feedback to improve model performance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop gold‑standard legal prompts, issue analyses, drafting examples, checklists, policies and memos for AI training.
• Evaluate and rank AI‑generated legal answers for accuracy, clarity, completeness and risk awareness.
• Identify and document errors in legal reasoning, rule application, procedural steps and assumptions.
• Fact‑check legal concepts, verify citations and ensure confidentiality and bias mitigation.
• Write clear explanations and model answers that demonstrate correct legal analysis.

Required profile

• JD/LLB (or equivalent) and active bar membership (or eligibility) in at least one jurisdiction.
• Minimum 5 years of professional legal practice in any sector (law firm, in‑house, government, or legal aid).
• Proven ability to spot issues, structure analysis (rule → application → conclusion) and handle uncertainty.
• Experience in at least one practice area such as contracts, employment, privacy, corporate, litigation, IP, real estate or compliance.
• Strong research skills with ability to locate and synthesize primary authority.
