Domestic Assistant / Porter (Part‑time, Hospital)

About the role

We are seeking a Domestic Assistant/Porter to join the team at Borders General Hospital on a part‑time basis. Working 15 hours per week, you will be on site each Monday and Tuesday providing cleaning and portering support to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning of clinical and non‑clinical areas in accordance with NHS standards.
• Assist with the transport of equipment, linen and waste as required.
• Maintain cleanliness of patient rooms, corridors, bathrooms and communal spaces.
• Support infection‑control procedures and report any hazards.
• Undertake additional portering duties when needed, such as moving patients or supplies.

Required profile

• Demonstrated competence in domestic and cleaning activities.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and duties.
• Familiarity with the NHS Borders Behavioural Framework or willingness to learn.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom and willingness to undergo required background checks.

Required skills

• Knowledge of standard cleaning equipment and safe handling of chemicals.
• Basic understanding of hospital portering procedures.
