Charge Nurse – Ward 7, Borders General Hospital

About the role

The Charge Nurse will lead Ward 7 at Borders General Hospital, an acute surgical ward with 31 beds covering General Surgery, Gynaecology and Urology. This full‑time position offers a supportive, multidisciplinary environment focused on continuous improvement and high‑quality, person‑centred care.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise registered, unregistered staff and student nurses on a 24/7 service.
• Assess patient needs and deliver high‑quality clinical care.
• Coordinate complex patient discharges in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
• Make confident clinical decisions without direct supervision.
• Maintain ward standards, ensure compliance with policies and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Full UK registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
• Current NHS Scotland employee or eligible to work in the United Kingdom.
• Flexibility to work days and nights across a 36‑hour week.
• Strong leadership and supervisory abilities.
• Commitment to delivering compassionate, high‑quality care.
