Specialist Pharmacist – Clinical Pharmacy

About the role

The Specialist Pharmacist will join the Pharmacy Department of the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital, delivering safe, effective and person‑centred medication care across intensive care, thoracic, cardiac surgery, cardiology and orthopaedic services. The role blends clinical practice, education and research within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide a full range of clinical pharmacy services to patients in intensive care, thoracic, cardiac surgery, cardiology and orthopaedic units.
• Offer prescribing support to clinical staff, ensuring safe, clinically appropriate and cost‑effective use of medicines.
• Maintain compliance with medicines management policies, safety standards and relevant legislation.
• Participate in regular development sessions linked to the RPS Core Advanced Practice portfolio.
• Contribute to education duties and develop independent research projects.

Required profile

• Qualified pharmacist registered with the appropriate regulatory body.
• Willingness to engage in advanced practice and independent prescribing training.
• Commitment to continuous improvement, patient safety and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Required skills

• Clinical pharmacy expertise in intensive care and surgical specialties.
• Prescribing support and medicines optimisation.
• Knowledge of medicines legislation and safety policies.
