Services Specialist - On Site Services

About the role

The Services Specialist provides on‑site maintenance, repair and refurbishment for GIS (Gas‑Insulated Switchgear) equipment at customer locations. The role ensures safe execution of preventive and corrective tasks, supports major overhauls, and collaborates with customers to recommend upgrades or retrofits.

Key responsibilities

• Prioritize EHS standards while performing GIS field service operations.
• Troubleshoot out‑of‑warranty GIS units with spring, pneumatic and hydraulic mechanisms (72.5 kV to 765 kV).
• Execute annual maintenance contracts for GIS bays across utilities and private customers.
• Inspect phased‑out GIS products and advise on major overhauls, factory repairs, or retrofit solutions.
• Lead independent overhauls of legacy GIS equipment (72.5 kV to 400 kV).
• Map installed GIS base and recommend servicing, overhauls, and spare‑part procurement.
• Follow up on payments, capture spare‑part enquiries during site visits, and support project execution.
• Document service reports, timesheets, expenses, and feedback using the Service Max tool.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5‑10 years of experience with GE‑make GIS products.
• Willingness to travel frequently and work on customer shutdown schedules.

Required skills

• GIS equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and spring‑operated mechanisms.
• Strong oral and written communication.
• Project management and problem‑resolution abilities.
• Proficiency with Service Max or similar service execution tools.
