Principal Engineer – Hydrology

About the role

This position leads the delivery of hydrology and stormwater projects at a senior technical level. Working closely with an Associate, the Principal Engineer provides advanced expertise, ensures quality across all deliverables, and mentors junior staff to build capability.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake and oversee complex 1D and 2D hydrological and hydraulic modelling using InfoWorks ICM, HEC‑HMS, HEC‑RAS, SewerGEMS, QGIS, FlowMaster and related tools.
• Review and refine storm‑water management reports for accuracy, standards compliance and project alignment.
• Apply Civil 3D and BIM workflows to integrate design visualisation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (CAD, Roads, Landscape, Geotechnical, Environment) to embed hydrology into broader project packages.
• Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior engineers and modelers.
• Embed Health & Safety and sustainability principles into all work practices.
• Participate in client meetings, technical discussions and continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of storm‑water systems, hydrological processes and drainage design.
• Proven ability to apply advanced modelling methods and adhere to local and international design standards, including GCC manuals.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Flexibility to work on projects across the Middle East or the UK.
• Demonstrated Principal‑level competencies in collaboration, technical delivery and adaptability.
