Patient Care Assistant – Oncology (Night Shift)

About the role

The Patient Care Assistant provides direct bedside support to oncology patients during night shifts at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Working under the supervision of a Team Leader and registered nurses, you will assist with daily living activities, monitor vital signs, and perform specific technical tasks to ensure safe and compassionate care.

Key responsibilities

• Measure and record temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, height, and intake‑output.
• Encourage patients to turn, cough, use incentive spirometry, and ambulate as directed.
• Assist patients with transfers, bed baths, oral hygiene, dressing, and positioning.
• Manage drainage devices, urine bags, bedpans, and document outputs.
• Perform phlebotomy and EKG procedures after required training.
• Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens as ordered.
• Respond promptly to call lights and patient requests.
• Maintain a safe environment by reporting equipment issues and handling supplies appropriately.

Required profile

• Ability to work night shifts on a full‑time schedule (72 hours per pay period).
• Comfortable providing hands‑on care to oncology patients under supervision.
• Willingness to follow the Plan of Care and hospital policies.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy (with additional training).
• EKG performance (with special training).
• Accurate vital signs measurement.
• Incentive spirometry and range‑of‑motion assistance.
