Patient Care Assistant – Neuroscience Unit

About the role

The Patient Care Assistant provides direct bedside support to patients in the Neuroscience Unit, working under the supervision of the Team Leader and registered nurses. This full‑time position involves hands‑on care, assistance with activities of daily living, and execution of specific technical tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Measure and record vital signs, weight, height, and intake‑output data.
• Encourage and assist patients with breathing exercises, incentive spirometry, and ambulation.
• Provide personal care such as bed baths, oral hygiene, dressing, and linen changes.
• Manage drainage systems, urine bags, bedpans, and emesis basins, documenting output.
• Assist with positioning, transfers, and use of mobility devices.
• Collect urine, stool, sputum, and other specimens as ordered.
• Perform phlebotomy and EKGs after completing required training.
• Maintain a safe environment by reporting equipment issues and handling supplies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; certification as a nursing assistant preferred.
• Ability to work variable day and night shifts in a fast‑paced hospital setting.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow care plans accurately.
