Passive Cooling Consultant

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Passive Cooling Consultant to support its Mitigation Branch and the UNEP India Office. The consultant will work remotely to accelerate the uptake of passive cooling solutions across Indian real‑estate projects, helping governments, cities, and private developers integrate climate‑friendly cooling designs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical design assistance to real‑estate developers for integrating passive cooling solutions into new and existing buildings.
• Conduct building energy analysis and cost‑benefit assessments to demonstrate the value of passive cooling.
• Liaise with UNEP India Office, state governments, public sector undertakings, and academic partners to promote heat‑adaptation strategies.
• Support the Cool Coalition network by sharing best practices and facilitating knowledge exchange.
• Prepare recommendations and implementation guidance for at least two real‑estate development projects.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of experience in sustainable building design, energy efficiency, or related fields.
• Proven experience working with real‑estate developers, building associations, or government agencies on climate‑adaptation projects.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to produce clear, evidence‑based reports.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; French is a plus.
