Mechanical Engineer – Power Generation

About the role

Burns & McDonnell India’s Power Division is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Mumbai office and support the design and evaluation of systems for coal‑ and natural‑gas‑fired power plants. The role involves detailed engineering, vendor coordination and preparation of contract documents for new builds and modifications.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate design assignments and multidisciplinary teams across Mumbai and U.S. offices.
• Define system, instrumentation and control requirements and develop design basis documents.
• Create and review P&IDs, process flow diagrams, heat‑and‑mass‑balance calculations and line lists.
• Perform hydraulic calculations, select and size pumps, pipes, valves and control devices.
• Size safety valves, apply API 520/521/526 standards and prepare PSV datasheets.
• Develop equipment specifications, evaluate technical bids and administer equipment contracts.
• Prepare deliverables for construction and installation, and review calculations and drawings for compliance with project and industry standards.

Required profile

• Mechanical engineering degree with experience in power‑generation facilities (coal or natural gas).
• Proven ability to work in complex, multi‑disciplinary projects and to develop consensus on technical solutions.
• Strong analytical mindset and willingness to innovate engineering practices.
• Excellent communication skills for interfacing with vendors, project managers and other engineering disciplines.
