Low-carbon Housing Expert (Consultant)

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a senior consultant to provide technical support for low‑carbon, climate‑resilient affordable housing initiatives in India and Bangladesh. Working remotely from India, you will collaborate with the Buildings and Cooling Team and partner agencies to translate design prototypes into implementable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver advisory inputs to the Odisha Urban Housing Mission (OUHM) and Dhaka Urban Development Authority.
• Develop state‑level design guidelines applicable to all affordable housing projects.
• Create a scalable rental‑housing policy framework for Odisha.
• Produce a prototype for cost‑effective, low‑carbon, climate‑resilient housing for Dhaka.
• Integrate sustainability, affordability, resource efficiency, climate resilience, and social inclusivity across the full housing delivery process.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with experience in sustainable building design, affordable housing, and climate‑resilient construction.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical, organizational, and analytical support in multi‑stakeholder environments.
• Based in India and able to work remotely for a six‑month assignment.
