Data Engineer – Remote (India)

About the role

We are looking for a Data Engineer with strong SQL and programming skills to design, build and optimise scalable data pipelines. The role is fully remote for candidates based in India and involves collaborating with US‑based clients and cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain robust batch and streaming pipelines from ingestion through transformation to consumption.
• Write clean, performant SQL and code (Python, Scala or Java) that is testable and extensible.
• Model data using dimensional models, star/snowflake schemas and appropriate warehouse/lake/lakehouse patterns.
• Own end‑to‑end pipeline health: monitoring, data quality, observability, lineage and cost optimisation.
• Analyse existing pipelines, debug issues and improve reliability and performance at scale.
• Partner with analysts, data scientists and business stakeholders to turn ambiguous requirements into dependable data products.

Required profile

• Can explain why a tool was chosen and demonstrate ownership of end‑to‑end pipelines.
• Evidence of handling scale, latency requirements and cost optimisation.
• Strong communication skills in English for client‑facing interactions.
• Early leadership instincts such as mentoring juniors or driving projects to completion.

Required skills

• Advanced SQL (window functions, query optimisation).
• Programming in Python, Scala or Java.
• ETL/ELT orchestration tools: Airflow, dbt, Dagster or Luigi.
• Distributed processing: Spark, Flink or Hadoop.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, GCP or Azure and services like Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake or Databricks.
• Data formats: Parquet, Avro, ORC.
• Version control (Git), CI/CD, Terraform, Docker and Kubernetes.
