About the role
The Culinary Commis supports the kitchen team at JW Marriott Hotel Kolkata by preparing ingredients, cooking simple dishes, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. This full‑time, onsite position offers the chance to develop culinary skills in a world‑class hotel setting.
Key responsibilities
- Portion, chop, wash, peel, weigh, measure and mix ingredients according to recipes.
- Prepare and cook food, including cold dishes, while adhering to quality, presentation and safety standards.
- Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves and fryers.
- Test food for doneness, monitor quality, and ensure proper portioning.
- Set up and break down work stations, and maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, tools and equipment.
- Check and record appliance and food temperatures.
- Follow company safety policies, report incidents and complete required training.
- Maintain a professional appearance and uphold confidentiality of proprietary information.
Required profile
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- At least 1 year of related culinary or food‑preparation experience.
- No supervisory experience required.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift and carry objects up to 25 lb without assistance.
Required skills
- Operating ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves and fryers.
- Food preparation and basic cooking techniques.
- Measuring, weighing and mixing ingredients accurately.
- Maintaining kitchen hygiene and sanitation standards.
