Controlling Specialist – Cost Analysis & Reporting

About the role

The Controlling Specialist will be responsible for delivering accurate cost analysis, budgeting and financial reporting for an assigned business area within the BASF Group. You will work closely with the Finance Manager and provide actionable insights that support strategic decision‑making and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct cost analysis, monitoring, reporting and budgeting for the designated business area.
• Liaise with the Finance Manager and ensure compliance with BASF Group accounting and controlling guidelines.
• Deliver reliable financial information to support management decisions and strategic planning.
• Manage month‑end and year‑end closing processes, forecasting and budget planning.
• Lead automation and continuous‑improvement initiatives, improving transparency of cost development.
• Monitor project cost accounting and ensure accurate tracking.
• Prepare and present clear reports and presentations to senior management.
• Coordinate ad‑hoc analyses and respond to management inquiries.
• Conduct training sessions for stakeholders to promote smooth processes and knowledge transfer.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Controlling or Accounting.
• Several years of experience in business or controlling functions preferred.
• Strong analytical and numerical abilities with a proactive, continuous‑improvement mindset.
• Excellent communication skills in English; German is a plus but not mandatory.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office (especially Excel).
• Experience using SAP BW.
• Experience with SAP CO/CI.
• Ability to create visualisations and reports in PowerBI.
