Transformer Design Engineer (Electrical, Mechanical, Control, Component)

About the role

Hitachi Energy is seeking experienced engineers to design and develop electrical, mechanical, control, internal and component aspects of power, distribution and special‑purpose transformers. You will work on cutting‑edge projects that support a sustainable energy future.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop transformer electrical, mechanical, control, internal and component features.
• Perform detailed engineering calculations, thermal, mechanical stress and electromagnetic simulations.
• Prepare and review technical specifications, drawings and other design documentation.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, testing and sales teams to ensure feasibility, manufacturability and cost‑effectiveness.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis for design issues and implement corrective actions.
• Stay current with IEC, ANSI/IEEE standards and emerging transformer technologies.
• Support prototype development, testing and validation activities.
• Contribute to intellectual property creation and patent filings.
• Identify and implement design improvements for performance, efficiency and reliability.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience in transformer or heavy electrical equipment design.
• Strong understanding of electromagnetic theory, thermal management, insulation systems and mechanical integrity.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor) and simulation software (ANSYS, COMSOL).
• Knowledge of IEC, ANSI/IEEE standards.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and within cross‑functional teams.
