Backend Engineer

About the role

Igloo, a fast‑growing insurtech leader operating across Southeast Asia, is looking for a Backend Engineer to shape the scalability, security and reliability of its core platform. You will translate high‑level product goals into high‑performance backend services that support global expansion and AI‑enhanced features.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, data scientists and designers to define, refine and implement new product features.
• Partner with DevOps to build frameworks, define API contracts and improve CI/CD pipelines and code‑base hygiene.
• Design and implement solutions that enhance platform scalability, security and reliability.
• Develop and maintain backend services using modern system‑programming languages and cloud technologies.
• Contribute to technical standards and best‑practice documentation across teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of professional experience in backend development.
• Experience in a tech start‑up environment is a plus.
• Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly and work independently.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with AWS cloud services.
• Proficiency in RESTful/RPC services and system‑programming languages such as C++, Java or Golang (Golang preferred).
• Experience with NoSQL databases (Redis, MongoDB) and relational databases (MySQL).
• Familiarity with message‑queue systems like Kafka or Kinesis.
• Containerisation using Docker and basic CI/CD workflows on AWS or GCP.
• Understanding of system performance, scaling and security best practices.
• Exposure to AI tools and building backend support for AI functionality.
