Welding Specialist – Advanced Procedures & Automation

About the role

We are seeking a Welding Specialist to lead the definition, governance, and continuous improvement of welding procedures across a range of industrial projects, including bulk material handling, mineral processing, and steel plants. The role combines technical expertise with leadership to ensure compliance, quality, and productivity in all welding activities.

Key responsibilities

• Define and govern Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) and Welder Qualification (WPQ) for all project types.
• Ensure compliance with international standards such as ASME, AWS, EN and IS codes.
• Lead development and implementation of advanced welding techniques (GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW, Orbital Welding, Cladding, Hardfacing).
• Drive automation and mechanized welding solutions to improve productivity and quality.
• Provide technical guidance during fabrication, erection, pre‑commissioning and shutdown phases.
• Conduct critical welding reviews, joint design, consumable selection and metallurgy decisions.
• Audit subcontractor capabilities, fabrication shops, yards and site welding operations.
• Establish Inspection & Test Plans (ITP), QA procedures and root‑cause analysis for welding defects.
• Develop and run skill‑enhancement programs for engineers, supervisors and welders.
• Support tendering teams with welding inputs, productivity benchmarks and cost estimates.
• Lead digital transformation initiatives such as electronic WPS, welder performance monitoring and NDT integration.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in welding engineering for heavy‑industry projects.
• Strong knowledge of international welding codes and standards.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage complex site issues.
• Experience with automation, mechanized welding and digital welding tools.
• Excellent problem‑solving and root‑cause analysis skills.
