Shot Blasting Operator

About the role

The Shot Blasting Operator is responsible for preparing structural and precision components of tower cranes and drive systems for painting or coating. This role ensures surfaces meet cleanliness and roughness specifications to guarantee long‑term corrosion resistance.

Key responsibilities

• Perform abrasive blasting on fabricated assemblies, machined parts, and drive housings to remove rust, scale, oil, and previous coatings.
• Verify material identity using heat codes or part IDs before blasting and ensure all weld joints, burrs, and surface defects are corrected.
• Set up and operate manual or semi‑automatic blasting machines, adjusting air pressure, nozzle size, and abrasive flow according to job cards.
• Handle and monitor abrasive media (steel shots, aluminum oxide), screening for contamination and reporting low stock.
• Conduct pre‑ and post‑blasting inspections, documenting surface cleanliness grades (e.g., Sa 2.5, Sa 3) and anchor profiles.
• Maintain accurate records of job numbers, component details, blasting parameters, and operator initials.
• Follow safety procedures, wear mandatory PPE, and manage hazardous waste according to regulations.

Required profile

• Experience with shot or grit blasting in an industrial environment.
• Ability to read technical specifications, ISO 8501‑1 standards, and work instructions.
• Attention to detail for inspection and documentation.
• Commitment to safety and 5S workplace organization.

Required skills

• Operation of manual and semi‑automatic blasting equipment.
• Abrasive media handling (steel shot, aluminum oxide) and screening.
• Compressor monitoring and airflow control.
• Surface preparation standards (ISO 8501‑1, Sa 2.5, Sa 3).
• Use of personal protective equipment for blasting.
