Platform Engineer II

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Database Platform Engineer II to drive the design, deployment, and optimization of its multi‑cloud, polyglot database environment. The role focuses on building secure, scalable, and highly available data services across AWS and Azure while automating routine operations.

Key responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and manage high‑performance database clusters using PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Build and maintain cloud‑native database solutions (RDS, Aurora, DocumentDB, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB) with emphasis on high availability and cost efficiency.
• Develop Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible) to automate provisioning, patching, and scaling of database resources.
• Monitor database health and performance, identify bottlenecks, and recommend schema or indexing improvements.
• Implement encryption, IAM roles, and access controls to meet PCI‑DSS and SOX compliance requirements.
• Support migration of legacy workloads to modern cloud‑native or distributed architectures.
• Provide on‑call support for production incidents, conduct root‑cause analysis, and drive preventive actions.
• Collaborate with application developers to advise on database selection and data‑modeling best practices for microservices.

Required profile

• Proactive problem‑solver with a strong background in NoSQL and open‑source database technologies.
• Hands‑on experience managing databases in public cloud environments (AWS or Azure).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional engineering team.
