Head of Mining Operations

About the role

The Head of Mining Operations will lead all mining activities for BALCO, overseeing coal and bauxite projects as well as the Greenfield Barra Coal Project. This senior position is responsible for ensuring safety, productivity, and profitability while aligning operations with corporate strategy and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily mining operations, implementing best practices in techniques and equipment usage.
• Onboard and coordinate with the Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) as a strategic business partner.
• Secure and maintain all necessary management and government approvals for mining projects.
• Develop and execute long‑term strategic plans to meet production targets and corporate objectives.
• Allocate human, financial, and material resources efficiently across all mining sites.
• Implement and monitor Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies, conduct safety audits, and lead sustainability initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal mining regulations and stay updated on legislative changes.
• Prepare and oversee financial aspects of mining projects, including budgeting and cost control.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in large‑scale mining operations, preferably in coal or bauxite.
• Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and approval processes in India.
• Demonstrated ability to manage cross‑functional teams and external partners.
• Excellent strategic planning and resource optimization skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of modern mining techniques and equipment.
• Expertise in HSE standards and safety audit procedures.
• Familiarity with Vedanta safety standards and the Vedanta Sustainability Assurance Programme (V‑SAP).
