About the role

The Contracts Engineer will be responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts and sub‑contracts, ensuring they protect the company’s interests and comply with all legal and regulatory requirements. The role also covers end‑to‑end contract administration, claims handling and dispute resolution throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts and sub‑contracts, maintaining compliance with legal standards.
  • Administer contracts across the project lifecycle, monitoring obligations of all parties.
  • Identify, prepare and submit claims for delays, changes, disruptions or cost overruns with thorough documentation.
  • Assess and respond to claims from subcontractors or third parties, preparing defenses or rebuttals.
  • Negotiate settlements of claims and disputes, aiming to minimise risk and cost.
  • Coordinate with legal advisors and project teams to prevent disputes and manage resolution through negotiation, mediation, arbitration or litigation.
  • Communicate contract matters and claim statuses clearly to clients, contractors, legal teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of all contractual documents, correspondence, notices and claim‑related information.
  • Issue timely contractual notices (e.g., delay or change notices) in line with contract terms.
  • Collaborate with commercial, finance and project control teams to evaluate financial impacts of claims and contractual risks.
  • Lead and mentor contract administrators or claims specialists, providing training on best practices.
  • Stay updated on relevant contract laws, industry standards and best practices.

Required profile

  • Proven experience in contract administration and claims management within construction, engineering or related sectors.
  • Strong understanding of contract law, regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical and documentation skills for preparing and defending claims.
  • Effective negotiation and communication abilities with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leadership experience in guiding contract or claims teams.
