Yellow Plant Manager

About the role

The Yellow Plant Manager oversees the planning, deployment, operation and maintenance of all yellow plant machinery used in railway maintenance projects, both on ballasted and non‑ballasted track systems. The role ensures equipment is used safely, efficiently and cost‑effectively while complying with project specifications, safety regulations and standards such as TSI.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate daily and weekly deployment of yellow plant across multiple project sites, matching machines to maintenance and construction schedules.
• Monitor machine performance on‑site, verify suitability for assigned tasks and identify inefficiencies early.
• Conduct site inspections to detect breakdowns, arrange repairs, engage maintenance teams and enforce preventive maintenance programmes.
• Ensure operators follow safe working procedures, safety devices are functional and all activities meet occupational health and regulatory requirements.
• Document utilisation data—including working hours, downtime, fuel consumption and productivity—to support performance monitoring, budgeting and resource planning.
• Provide technical advice and support to site teams during operations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in plant or equipment management within railway or large‑scale civil engineering projects.
• Strong understanding of safety standards, regulatory compliance and railway-specific requirements (e.g., TSI).
• Ability to plan and coordinate resources across multiple sites and adapt to changing project needs.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills for rapid response to equipment issues.

Required skills

• Knowledge of railway maintenance machinery and preventive maintenance practices.
• Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance procedures.
• Competence in utilisation reporting and data collection.
