Patient Care Assistant – Neuroscience Unit

About the role

The Patient Care Assistant works on the Neuroscience Unit of Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, providing direct bedside support to patients under the supervision of a Team Leader. This full‑time, night‑shift position involves hands‑on care, assistance with activities of daily living, and execution of technical tasks as outlined in each patient’s plan of care.

Key responsibilities

• Take and record vital signs, intake‑output measurements, and assist with specimen collection.
• Encourage patients to use incentive spirometry, turn, cough, and perform deep‑breathing exercises.
• Assist patients with ambulation, transfers, wheelchair use, and transport as needed.
• Provide personal care such as bed baths, oral hygiene, dressing changes, and linen management.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and manage oxygen and suction equipment after proper training.
• Respond promptly to call lights, report significant changes to the RN, and maintain a clean, safe environment.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED (or equivalent experience).
• No prior experience required; on‑the‑job training provided.
• CPR certification is mandatory.
• Willingness to function as a sitter for patients requiring full‑time supervision.
